Roanoke is the largest municipality in Southwest Virginia. The city is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the middle of the Roanoke Valley. Roanoke is the commercial and cultural hub of much of Southwest Virginia and portions of Southern West Virginia.
The Verrazano–Narrows Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge that connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. Construction started in 1959 and the bridge opened in 1964. Fort Wadswoths and Battery Weed are now part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and maintained by the National Park Service.
The Sacred Heart Basilica is located in the Forest Hill section of Newark, New Jeresey. Groundbeaking began in January 1898. The church was finally dedicated on October 19, 1954. In 1995 Pope John Paul II celebrated evening prayers, and the cathedral was elevated to a basilica. Concerts are held in the Basilica throughout the year. The church has the largest pipe organ ever built by Schantz Organ Company.
